Treasury
PROPERTY TAXES |
Managing the Financial Affairs of the Township Treasury is responsible for all accounting services for the corporation including the collection of property taxes, the payment of bills for all department purchases of good and services, payroll and personnel records, invoicing and collection of general fees. In addition, Treasury manages the cash and investments of the Township. This includes the general bank accounts as well as funds of the Financial Reserves. The lower tier municipalities, such as the Township of Muskoka Lakes, collect all property taxes due from each property owner. This includes those taxes payable for the District of Muskoka and for the four school authorities serving our residents. The Township retains only a small portion of the total property taxes paid by the property owner for the provision of Township services. The Ontario Municipal Act and other legislation govern the activities of Treasury as well as a variety of policies established and approved by Township Council. |
