Township of Muskoka Lakes Streetscape Improvements





As the Township of Muskoka Lakes continues to strive to thrive, exciting opportunities emerge to strengthen the essence and personality of Muskoka utilizing community design strategies.

In a continuing effort to serve the needs of the Township, including parking efficiency, pedestrian safety, business opportunities, aesthetics and community design, the Township of Muskoka Lakes retained the services of professional design teams to develop Master Plan documents for the downtown areas of Bala and Port Carling.

LAND Inc, landscape architects and urban designers from Toronto, Ontario was retained to lead a design exercise for Port Carling. The Planning Partnership, landscape architects and urban designers from Toronto, Ontario was retained to develop design strategies and complete construction documentation for Bala.

Although each community faces similar issues requiring updated strategies, each is also unique and faces its own set of challenges. Design solutions will respect the character of each community.

Streetscape improvements have been completed in Bala on Muskoka Road #169 between River Street and Gordon Street and on Bala Falls Road.

In Port Carling, improvements have been made on Maple Street, Medora Street (Maple Street to Ferndale Road) and on Joseph Street opposite the municipal offices. These works included pedestrian freindly access improvement, sidewalk and parking space construction, installation of dark sky friendly streetlighting and construction of granite retaining walls and various landscaping works.
