District Government

The government in Muskoka is organized in a two-tier system. The District Municipality of Muskoka forms the upper-tier, working closely with six Area Municipalities who make up the other tier. Both levels collaborate and align services to achieve cost efficiencies and best serve residents and visitor to Muskoka.

District Operations

Operations of the District are overseen by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and managed by the following departments:

  • Administration

    • CAO, Clerk, Legal, Human Resources, Continuous Improvement Unit, Communications

  • Community Services

    • Social Assistance (Ontario Works), Housing, Homelessness Prevention, Seniors Programs and Services, Community Programs, Long-Term Care, and Poverty Reduction

  • Engineering and Public Works

    • Roads and Bridges, Water, Wastewater, Recycling, and Solid Waste Management

  • Finance and Corporate Services

    • Financial Management, Provincial Offences Court,  Emergency Management, Land Ambulance, Police, Facilities, and Information Technology

  • Planning and Economic Development

    • Land Use Planning, Environmental and Watershed Programs, Economic Development, Muskoka Airport, GIS/9-1-1
